Clinical Laboratory Scientist, Sr. Immunohematology Specialist

We’re seeking an experienced Senior Clinical Laboratory Scientist with a strong background in Immunohematology to join our dynamic team. In this leadership role, you’ll focus on training staff and medical trainees, overseeing advanced antibody testing, evaluating new technologies, and ensuring quality standards in transfusion services. This role also involves supporting organ transplant cases, maintaining lab instruments, and overseeing compliance with regulatory requirements.

 

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities

  • Train and mentor personnel, medical students, residents, and fellows in Immunohematology procedures.
  • Assign and review antibody identification workups and special testing.
  • Develop and validate new procedures, technologies, and equipment for the Transfusion Service.
  • Manage reagents, consumables, and automated instruments to ensure optimal lab operations.
  • Support quality assurance efforts, vendor validations, and regulatory compliance (AABB, CAP, FDA, etc.).
  • Coordinate reference testing, post results, and manage billing processes.
  • Ensure smooth lab operations, especially in high-demand situations, and address patient needs effectively.
  • Provide expert support for solid organ transplant cases, including securing antigen-negative blood products.
  • Participate in projects, special assignments, and process improvements as needed.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related science field.
  • Active California CLS license (or limited license in Immunohematology).
  • 3-5 years of transfusion services experience, with expertise in moderate-to-high complexity lab environments.
  • Strong knowledge of antibody testing, quality control, and transfusion reactions.
  • Proficiency in laboratory information systems (LIS) and office software (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Experience in teaching, training, and SOP development.

Preferred:

  • SBB certification.
  • 5+ years of advanced transfusion service experience, including neonatal transfusions, autoimmune anemia cases, and prenatal antibody testing.
  • Familiarity with automation and instrumentation in clinical labs.
  • Knowledge of regulatory compliance and quality assurance best practices.
