Clinical Lab Scientist / Medical Technologist

Job Overview:
This role is responsible for delivering accurate laboratory results for both inpatient and outpatient clients in alignment with internal protocols.

Responsibilities

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct a range of laboratory procedures for emergency, therapeutic, and diagnostic purposes, ensuring age-appropriate care for neonatal, pediatric, adult, and geriatric patients. The role may involve performing tests of varying complexity levels.
  • Manage laboratory instruments, including calibration, maintenance, troubleshooting, and ensuring proper operation. Regular quality control checks are performed to maintain the integrity of tests and equipment.
  • Accurately document all tasks and adhere to safety and infection control protocols.
  • Provide training and guidance to colleagues and students, and assist with continuing education initiatives when directed.
  • Manage and inventory laboratory supplies, ensuring proper handling and storage.
  • Respond to inquiries regarding test outcomes, methods, and interpretation.
  • Serve as the lead technician when needed.

  • Perform any additional duties as required.

Qualifications

Certification (MT or CLS) is required within 18 months after employment from one of the following agencies:  American Society of Clinical Pathologists (ASCP), the National Certifying Agency for Medical Laboratory Personnel (NCA), the American Medical Technologist (AMT), or the American Association of Bio-analysts (AAB).  If an employee does not meet the certification requirement within 18 months of employment, he/she will no longer qualify for this position.  Abilities are demonstrated in areas of assigned responsibilities by successful completion of annual laboratory competency testing. Must obtain BLS certification within 90 days of employment and maintain thereafter.

Must be able to read, write legibly, speak, and comprehend English.
