Clinical Laboratory Scientist – Generalist

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs standardized urinalysis tests in a toxicology laboratory for the detection of prescription and illicit drugs using advanced LC-MS/MS technology, and reviews and approves patient results for reporting.

Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS) – Full-Time
$2,500 Sign-On Bonus!

Work Schedule:

  • 4×10 schedule: 3 weekdays between Tuesday and Friday, plus every Saturday (total of 4 days/week, 10 hours/day).

  • Start time: 1:00 PM PST.

Responsibilities

  • Perform and report laboratory test results for all approved methods in a high-complexity setting.

  • Ensure accuracy and quality of test results within required turnaround times.

  • Enter testing data and conduct standardized tests on urine samples using LC-MS/MS technology.

  • Evaluate validity of results, maintain records, and prepare reports.

  • Review and maintain quality control and chromatographic data before releasing results.

  • Follow established quality control procedures; assist with preparing data reports for review.

  • Identify, troubleshoot, document, and resolve testing issues.

  • Document issues via Laboratory Occurrence Management forms.

  • Act as a resource and trainer for laboratory technicians and assistants.

  • Prepare reagents and supplies, maintain equipment, and ensure the laboratory remains clean and orderly.

  • Adhere to laboratory safety practices and support operational activities.

  • May oversee laboratory technicians and assistants.

  • Participate in research projects as opportunities arise.

  • Assist with internal laboratory audits.

  • Follow all safety, confidentiality, and compliance procedures, including HIPAA and cybersecurity controls.

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Bachelor’s degree with a current California CLS license.

  • ASCP certification preferred.

Experience:

  • 1+ years in high-complexity testing in a CLIA/CAP-compliant laboratory.

  • Must maintain CEUs required by the California Department of Health Services.

Skills & Knowledge:

  • Solid knowledge of laboratory methods, techniques, equipment, and supplies.

  • Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.

  • Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate across all levels of staff.

  • Attention to detail and high accuracy.
