Clinical Laboratory Scientist I-III

The Clinical Laboratory Scientist II is responsible for performing a variety of diagnostic tests, including hematology, coagulation, chemistry, and immunoassay analyses. This role ensures precision and reliability in all laboratory procedures, adheres to quality and safety standards, and supports continuous workflow efficiency and compliance within the laboratory environment.

Responsibilities

  • Execute laboratory testing following all established protocols, quality control standards, and documentation requirements.
  • Maintain an organized inventory and ensure that all reagents, supplies, and materials are properly tracked and replenished as needed.
  • Stay current with updates to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and implement revisions promptly to align with current best practices.
  • Recommend and assist in improving workflow processes to enhance operational efficiency and accuracy.
  • Perform preventive maintenance, equipment cleaning, and calibration to maintain optimal laboratory function.
  • Immediately report performance deviations or equipment malfunctions to supervisory personnel and take appropriate corrective actions.
  • Ensure testing turnaround times and productivity targets are consistently met.
  • Participate in external proficiency testing programs and process samples in the same manner as patient specimens.
  • Complete all continuing education and training credits necessary for certification and accreditation requirements.
  • Attend laboratory meetings and stay informed about incident reports, compliance topics, and policy changes.
  • Support additional laboratory functions such as method validations, lot-to-lot verification, document management, and safety initiatives.
  • Assist with pre-analytical operations, including specimen accessioning, verification of patient identifiers, handling non-compliant specimens, and creating exception or send-out cases when needed.

Qualifications

Education:

  • Must hold a valid state license to perform clinical testing (if required by local regulations).
  • Minimum of 60 semester hours from an accredited college or university, including either:
    • 24 hours of medical laboratory technology coursework, or
    • 24 hours of science coursework that includes at least 6 hours of chemistry and 6 hours of biology.
  • Successful completion of an approved clinical laboratory training program (ABHES, NAACLS, or equivalent).

Experience:

  • At least one year of experience performing human specimen testing in a CLIA-certified laboratory.
  • Solid understanding of laboratory quality assurance and control principles.
  • Hands-on experience in hematology, coagulation, clinical chemistry, and immunoassay testing.

Certifications/Licensure:

  • Certification from ASCP, AMT, or an equivalent credentialing body is preferred (or required if mandated by the state).

Shift: 4×10 Schedule, typically Wed to Saturday or Tuesday to Friday,
2am-12:30pm

Pay: $30 – $39/hr. (depending on years of CLIA experience and if you have an ASCP certification or not)
