Project: Staffing for Mobile COVID-19 Testing Laboratories
Background: In response to the COVID-19 pandemic, LAX Airport undertook an innovative project to ensure passenger safety and streamline the travel process. The airport decided to create several mobile laboratories out of shipping containers, where passengers could quickly and conveniently test for COVID-19 before boarding their flights. To achieve this, LAX Airport partnered with CLS Connect to staff the necessary clinical professionals for the project’s successful implementation.
Objective: The primary objective was to staff over 30 positions, including Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Phlebotomists, Registered Nurses (RNs), and a Laboratory Manager, to operate the mobile laboratories effectively. The goal was to ensure that passengers could drive by the mobile containers, get swabbed for COVID-19, and receive their test results via a mobile app before checking in for their flights.
Approach: CLS Connect was tasked with sourcing, interviewing, and placing qualified candidates within a tight timeframe to meet the urgent demands of the project. Utilizing our extensive internal database of over 30,000 ASCP-certified applicants and leveraging our robust network, we began the meticulous process of identifying the best candidates for each role.
Execution: Over the course of the recruitment process, CLS Connect successfully placed 22 highly qualified laboratory professionals, including Clinical Laboratory Scientists, Phlebotomists, RNs, and a Laboratory Manager. These professionals were crucial in the setup and operation of the mobile laboratories, ensuring that the testing procedures were carried out efficiently and accurately.
Results: The successful staffing enabled the timely launch of LAX Airport’s mobile COVID-19 testing laboratories. Passengers benefited from the convenience of drive-through testing, receiving their results quickly via a mobile app. This innovation not only enhanced passenger safety but also facilitated smoother operations at the airport during a challenging period.
Impact: The project had a significant impact on the local job market, creating over 30 jobs and contributing to the community’s economic stability during the pandemic.
