The Immunohematology Reference Laboratory (IRL) CLS II is responsible for performing advanced immunohematology and molecular testing in a highly regulated reference laboratory environment. This role supports complex transfusion services through expert serologic and molecular analysis, ensuring compliance with cGMP, CLIA, FDA, AABB, and internal quality standards.
The IRL CLS II works independently on complex cases, assists with training and quality initiatives, and provides technical consultation to internal and external customers.

Reports To: Supervisor, Immunohematology Reference Laboratory
Shift: Monday–Friday | Night Shift (9:00 PM START) – Candidates need to be flexible on what days/hours they can work during the week
Schedule: 30+ hours per week (most likely close to 40 hours)
Pay: $55 – $63/hr + 10% shift differential from 9am-12am, 15% shift differential from 12am-end of shift
Perform advanced immunohematology testing, including:
Red cell blood grouping and antibody identification
Identification of autoantibodies and antibodies to high- and low-prevalence antigens
Pre-transfusion compatibility testing
Platelet crossmatching
Adsorptions, elutions, enzyme treatments, titrations, and inhibition/neutralization testing
Identification of cold-reactive antibodies
Determine suitability of donor units with discrepant ABO/Rh groups or unexpected antibodies.
Perform donor and patient red cell antigen typing.
Conduct molecular testing, including:
DNA extraction
Next-Generation Sequencing (NGS)
Perform all duties in accordance with internal SOPs, cGMP standards, and regulatory requirements.
Maintain accurate, audit-ready documentation of testing, quality control, and workflows.
Participate in quality assurance, variance investigations, and quality incident reporting.
Support validation studies, new process development, and controlled document writing/revisions.
Participate in inspection readiness and regulatory audits.
Perform routine maintenance, calibration, troubleshooting, and quality control of laboratory equipment.
Assist with inventory management and supply control.
Support laboratory workflow efficiency and continuous improvement initiatives.
May cross-train in the Quality Control Laboratory.
Assist with onboarding, training, and competency assessment of laboratory personnel.
Provide technical consultation, verbal and written reports, and customer support.
Participate in departmental meetings, educational programs, on-call rotation, and weekend coverage as required.
Demonstrate professionalism, integrity, confidentiality, and effective communication in all interactions.
Bachelor’s degree required.
California Clinical Laboratory Scientist (CLS)
California Clinical Immunohematologist Scientist (CIS)
MLS/MT(ASCP)CM or equivalent experience
Minimum of 3+ years of laboratory experience
Strong knowledge of AABB Standards, FDA, CLIA, and blood banking regulations
Moderate to advanced understanding of:
Immunohematology
Blood group antigens and antibodies
Molecular diagnostics and hematology concepts
