Strong background in analytical chemistry is preferred.
Familiarity with SCIEX Mass Spectrometer instruments and SciexOS software is a significant advantage; experience with data analysis in MultiQuant or Analyst software is also acceptable. Understanding of parent/metabolite relationships is important.
Ability to identify false peaks in LC/MS analysis.
Proficiency with Laboratory Information Systems (LIS).
Ability to independently review and report test results.
Willingness to learn and perform mass finding steps for method development is beneficial.
Willingness to learn and perform mass spectrometer tuning is a plus.
Responsibilities
Conduct advanced analytical tests and procedures, identifying any deviations from expected results and implementing corrective actions to ensure accuracy and precision.
Perform onsite maintenance and troubleshooting of LC/MS instruments, with experience in Shimadzu/Sciex instruments being advantageous.
Adhere to established protocols, troubleshoot issues related to specimen collection and processing for analysis, and resolve any problems that arise.
Ensure all documentation associated with test results, maintenance records, and quality control is detailed, accurate, and easy to read.
Monitor Quality Control data, taking necessary actions based on the data to maintain optimal performance.
Supervise laboratory technicians during testing to ensure adherence to standard operating procedures (SOPs) and regulatory requirements.
Perform routine, preventive, and as-needed maintenance on laboratory instruments, ensuring they operate at peak performance. Experience with front-end cleaning of mass spectrometers and LC device troubleshooting/repair is a plus.
Assist in the training and orientation of laboratory staff, ensuring they are well-prepared to perform their duties.
Assist in drafting, reviewing, and updating SOPs as needed.
Monitor equipment performance through quality assurance and quality control procedures.
Perform additional tasks as needed to support laboratory goals and objectives.
Qualifications
Bachelor of Science degree or equivalent training required for California Clinical Laboratory Scientist License.
Valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist license issued by the State of California Department of Health Services, with acceptable specialties including Generalist, Toxicologist, and Chemist.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in a clinical laboratory or related environment, involving specialized and complex analysis, quality control, calibration, inventory control, preventive maintenance, and quality assurance/improvement activities.
