Manager, Anatomic Pathology

CLS Connect is partnering with a healthcare organization seeking an experienced Anatomic Pathology Manager to oversee the daily operations, personnel, quality, and performance of its Anatomic Pathology department.

This is a hands-on leadership opportunity for an experienced laboratory professional with a strong background in Histology, Cytology, Surgical Pathology, or Pathologists’ Assistant services. The Manager will provide operational and technical leadership while ensuring the department maintains high standards for quality, regulatory compliance, turnaround times, and patient care.

Shift: Monday to Friday (8 hours)

Responsibilities

  • Provide leadership and oversight for Anatomic Pathology operations, including Histology, Surgical Pathology, Cytology, and related laboratory functions.
  • Supervise, mentor, and develop laboratory staff while maintaining appropriate staffing and workflow coverage.
  • Manage employee onboarding, training, competency assessments, performance evaluations, and ongoing professional development.
  • Oversee laboratory workflow to ensure specimens are processed accurately, efficiently, and within established turnaround-time expectations.
  • Maintain compliance with CLIA, CAP, and other applicable regulatory and accreditation requirements.
  • Lead quality assurance, quality improvement, inspection-readiness, and corrective-action initiatives.
  • Develop, review, and maintain laboratory procedures and departmental policies.
  • Maintain working knowledge of Histology instrumentation, processes, and laboratory best practices.
  • Collaborate closely with Pathologists, laboratory leadership, and other clinical departments.
  • Identify workflow opportunities and lead process-improvement initiatives.
  • Participate in departmental budgeting, including operating and capital expenses.
  • Monitor departmental performance, productivity, quality metrics, and resource utilization.
  • Promote a strong culture of laboratory safety, accountability, collaboration, and continuous improvement.

Qualifications

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent combination of education and relevant experience.
  • Minimum 2 years of leadership or supervisory experience in a laboratory environment.
  • Current ASCP certification in at least one of the following:
    • Histotechnologist (HTL)
    • Histotechnician (HT)
    • Cytotechnologist (CT)
    • Pathologists’ Assistant (PA)
  • Strong understanding of Anatomic Pathology laboratory operations, quality systems, and regulatory requirements.
  • Demonstrated ability to lead teams, manage workflow, and drive operational improvements.

Preferred:

  • Master’s degree.
  • Advanced Histotechnology certification.
  • Previous experience managing multiple areas within Anatomic Pathology.
  • Experience with CAP inspections, CLIA compliance, quality management, and laboratory process improvement.
