Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist

Location: Virginia, Richlands   |   Work Location: On-site   |   Contract Type: Full-Time   |   Job Category: Allied Health   |   Salary Range: $28.00 – $37.00/hr

We are partnering with an established acute-care healthcare organization seeking a Medical Technologist / Medical Laboratory Scientist (MLS) to join its clinical laboratory team.

This position is responsible for performing a variety of clinical laboratory testing procedures and ensuring accurate, timely results that support patient diagnosis and treatment. The ideal candidate will have a strong foundation in laboratory science, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a fast-paced hospital environment.

Shift: Varied (may include days & nights) – candidates will need to be flexible.

Location: Richlands, Virginia

Responsibilities

  • Perform routine and complex laboratory testing on patient specimens.
  • Prepare, process, and analyze blood, body fluids, and other clinical specimens.
  • Perform testing related to blood bank and transfusion services as required.
  • Operate automated and computerized laboratory instrumentation.
  • Review laboratory results for accuracy, validity, and critical values.
  • Document and communicate test results according to established laboratory procedures.
  • Perform quality control and quality assurance activities to ensure reliable testing and instrumentation.
  • Troubleshoot laboratory equipment and testing issues when necessary.
  • Follow established safety, infection control, and regulatory procedures.
  • Participate in continuing education, competency assessments, and laboratory performance improvement initiatives.
  • Collaborate with laboratory staff and other healthcare professionals to support efficient patient care.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Medical Laboratory Science, Medical Technology, or a related laboratory science field required.
  • 1–2 years of clinical laboratory experience preferred.
  • Strong knowledge of clinical laboratory procedures, instrumentation, quality control, and laboratory safety.
  • Ability to work independently while contributing effectively within a laboratory team.
  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
