Under the guidance of leadership, this position serves as a technical expert in a high-complexity surgical pathology laboratory, providing expertise and support to trainees and pathology assistants (PAs). The role primarily focuses on the preparation and dissection of complex oncological specimens (e.g., pancreas, breast, bladder, uterus, ovary) as well as benign resections and biopsies. This position also includes responsibilities as an educator and mentor to both trainees and staff, fostering high-quality laboratory practices.
The individual will collaborate closely with laboratory leadership, supervisors, and other team members to ensure optimal workflow and specimen management. Responsibilities include consulting with pathologists, making technical decisions, resolving specimen processing issues, and ensuring accurate documentation. Additionally, the role requires proficiency in a broad range of laboratory tasks, including specimen accessioning, frozen sectioning, staining, grossing, dictation, and photography, with a thorough understanding of quality standards and their clinical significance.
The role may involve variable schedules and assignments at multiple locations, as well as support for autopsy and histology services. Additional responsibilities may be assigned as needed.
