Phlebotomist

Location: Washington, Spokane   |   Work Location: On-site   |   Contract Type: Full-Time   |   Job Category: Allied Health   |   Salary Range: $21.00/hr

Shift: Monday to Thursday 8am-5pm

Regulatory Requirements

  • Individuals performing high-to-moderate complexity testing must possess a current state license if required.

Phlebotomy Technician I

  • Maintain a valid certification as a Phlebotomy Technician.
  • Perform skin punctures and venipuncture blood collection under supervision.
  • Demonstrate competency in procedures without direct supervision, reviewed annually.
  • Complete at least 3 hours per year (or 6 hours every two years) of continuing education in phlebotomy-related courses.

Phlebotomy Technician II

  • Maintain certification as a Phlebotomy Technician II.
  • Perform skin puncture, venipuncture, and arterial puncture under supervision.
  • Demonstrate competency annually and complete continuing education requirements.

Responsibilities

  • Verify test requisitions and patient identification.
  • Perform venipuncture blood collection using aseptic techniques.
  • Maintain specimen integrity and ensure accurate tracking.
  • Properly label, package, and transport specimens to the laboratory.
  • Follow delivery schedules and maintain documentation.
  • Operate company vehicles per policy.
  • Stay updated through ongoing education and professional development.
  • Seek coaching and mentoring as needed.

Safety & Compliance Responsibilities

  • Adhere to legal and regulatory requirements, including HIPAA, COLA, and CLIA.
  • Support compliance initiatives and report any non-compliance concerns.
  • Ensure open communication regarding compliance without fear of retaliation.
  • Participate in mandatory orientation, safety, and HIPAA training.

Position Qualifications

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills.
  • Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to handle complex lab tasks while maintaining patient confidentiality.
  • Minimum one year of relevant experience.
  • Valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.

Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent.

Licensure & Certification Requirements

  • Phlebotomy Technician Certification (CPT I or CPT II).
  • American Heart Association BLS Certification.
  • American Society of Clinical Pathologists Phlebotomy Certification (PBT-ASCP).
  • Valid Driver’s License.
